Inside Higher Ed contributor Jennifer Ebbeler covers Texas Senate Bill 18, which would ban the award of tenure to any future faculty after Sept. 1. The bill was passed in spring 2023 by both the Texas Senate Subcommittee on Higher Education and the Senate Committee on Education. These votes were just the first of many that would be required for this bill to be signed into law, but Ebbeler posits that the outcome could be disastrous for the future of education at a distinguished school like UT Austin.
