Marshall C. Eakin, Ph.D. is a Distinguished Professor of History at Vanderbilt University. Marshall majored in anthropology and history at the University of Kansas completing a B.A. in 1975, and then completing an M.A. in history at KU over the next two years. He went on to do his doctoral work in Latin American history at the University of California at Los Angeles. On completion of his Ph.D. in 1981, Marshall taught for two years at Loyola-Marymount University before accepting a position in the history department at Vanderbilt University. He has served as department chair, director of the Center for Latin American Studies, and from 2009-2017 he was faculty director of the Ingram Scholarship Program. Marshall specializes in the history of Brazil over the past two centuries.
